Is Leg Tingling a Sign of PAD?

Tingling in your legs can be unsettling, and while it doesn’t always indicate a serious condition, it can be a symptom of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD). PAD occurs when the arteries that supply blood to your legs become narrowed or blocked, reducing blood flow to the extremities.

Common Symptoms of PAD

PAD often develops gradually, and many people don’t realize they have it until symptoms become noticeable:

  • Tingling or numbness in the legs or feet
  • Claudication — pain or cramping in the legs when walking
  • Coldness in one leg compared to the other
  • Weakness in the legs
  • Slow-healing sores on the toes, feet, or legs
  • Shiny skin or hair loss on the legs

When Tingling Could Mean PAD

If your leg tingling is accompanied by any of the following, it’s important to see a vascular specialist:

  • The tingling worsens with walking and improves with rest
  • You notice color changes in your legs or feet
  • You have risk factors such as smoking, diabetes, or high blood pressure
  • The symptoms are persistent and getting worse over time

What to Do Next

If you’re experiencing leg tingling along with other symptoms of PAD, don’t wait. Early detection and treatment can prevent serious complications including tissue damage and amputation.

At Vascular & Interventional Specialists, our board-certified interventional radiologists offer minimally invasive treatments for PAD that can restore blood flow and relieve symptoms — often in a single outpatient procedure.
